Welcome to VR-Link 5.8

MAK ONE HLA & DIS Simulation Networking

VR-Link 5.8 provides the network foundation of the MAK ONE product suite.

This feature release adds several new capabilities, fixes many bugs, and maintains stability for an API that customers have grown to count on for network connectivity for the last 30 years.

To better support high entity count scenarios, applications can notify VR-Link that many new objects are about to be created. This allows VR-Link to refrain from sending requests for updates on discovered objects until all the entities have been created. By not repeatedly sending attribute update requests total message count falls drastically, especially in federations where there are many federates. By holding off from responding to requests for brand new updates, the sending federate can focus on creating the large batch without interruption.

True multi-domain simulation requires a very large play area. MAK ONE products all work within a round Earth model defined by the WGS84 ellipsoid. However, having a round Earth isn’t enough if you want to interoperate with live entities, or think about your terrain as a Digital Twin of planet Earth. VR-Link 5.8 introduces support for Earth Gravitational Model (EGM) geoids. This allows for VR-Link based applications to compute the difference in mean sea level (MSL) between a selected EGM and the WGS84 reference ellipsoid.

Support has been added for Di-Guy Patch/Rank FOM Extensions. Now VR-Link federates can tell Di-Guy Characters to apply a rank or unit patch to soldiers’ uniforms.
