This section lists the settings you need to use to compile and link with the Logger API under Linux and Windows.

The Logger includes dynamic libraries. On Windows, it includes release and debug (d) libraries. The set of libraries that you link against depends on how you plan to use the Logger. In all cases, link against lgrUtil and lgrCore. If you are rebuilding the Logger application or embedding it in another application, link against lgrApp, lgrSim, and appEnv. If you are using the Qt GUI for the Logger, link against lgrGui and lgrSimGui. You can link to the lgrAnnotations and stateObserver plug-ins or load them through the plug-in interface.

Note

The example link lines in this section assume you are using the core libraries and application libraries.

8.1 Compiling and Linking for Linux

To compile against the Logger API in Linux, you must add the following include directive to your compile line:

-I loggerDir/include -I $(MAK_VRLDIR)/include -I $(MAK_VRLDIR)/include/compatibility

where loggerDir is the path to the root of your Logger installation and the environment variable MAK_VRLDIR is set to the path to the root of your VR-Link installation. When building for HLA 1.3, HLA 1516, or HLA Evolved, also use:

-I $(MAK_RTIDIR)/include

where the environment variable MAK_RTIDIR points to the root of your RTI installation.

Libraries that are not prefaced with “lib” (lgrSim, lgrSimGui, lgrAnnotations, and stateObserver) must use their absolute pathname in the link line.

8.1.1 Linking for HLA Exercises

For HLA 1.3, link against

-LloggerDir/lib -lliblgrUtil -lliblgrCore -lliblgrApp -llibappEnv 
-lliblgrGui loggerDir/lib/lgrSimGuiHLA13.so  -L$(MAK_VRLDIR)/lib
-lvlHLA13 -lvl -lmatrix -lmtl -lvlutil -L$(MAK_RTIDIR)/lib -lRTI-NG -lfedtime

For HLA 1516, link against:

-LloggerDir/lib -lliblgrUtil -lliblgrCore -lliblgrApp -llibappEnv 
-lliblgrGui loggerDir/lib/lgrSimGuiHLA1516.so -L$(MAK_VRLDIR)/lib
-lvlHLA1516 -lvl -lmatrix -lmtl -lvlutil -L$(MAK_RTIDIR)/lib -lrti1516 -lfedtime1516

For HLA Evolved, link against:

-LloggerDir/lib -lliblgrUtil -lliblgrCore -lliblgrApp -llibappEnv 
-lliblgrGui loggerDir/lib/lgrSimGuiHLA1516e.so -L$(MAK_VRLDIR)/lib 
-lvlHLA1516e -lvl -lmatrix -lmtl -lvlutil -L$(MAK_RTIDIR)/lib -lrti1516e -lfedtime1516e

8.1.2 Linking for DIS Exercises

For DIS, link against:

-LloggerDir/lib -lliblgrUtil -lliblgrCore -lliblgrApp -llibappEnv 
-lliblgrGui loggerDir/lib/lgrSimGuiDIS.so -L$(MAK_VRLDIR)/lib
-lvlDIS -lvl -lmatrix -lmtl -lvlutil 

Each example in ./examples has an example makefile.

Follow the directions in the VR-Link documentation for compiling and linking with VR-Link. The Logger library link flag (and the enumeration of the Logger libraries) must come before the VR-Link linking flag.

8.2 Compiling and Linking for Microsoft Windows

On Windows you must add the paths to the Logger’s include and lib directories to the include and lib paths in your project file. We distribute both debug and release versions of the Logger DLLs. The example link lines in this section are for the release libraries. To build for debug, use the d versions of the libraries.

8.2.1 Linking for HLA

For HLA 13, release configuration, link against:

lgrUtil.lib lgrCore.lib lgrApp.lib appEnv.lib lgrGui.lib lgrSimGuiHLA13.lib (Logger libraries)
vlHLA13.lib vl.lib matrix.lib mtl.lib vlutil.lib (VR-Link libraries)
libRTI-NG.lib libFedtime.lib (RTI libraries)

For HLA 1516, release configuration, link against:

lgrUtil.lib lgrCore.lib lgrApp.lib appEnv.lib lgrGui.lib lgrSimGuiHLA1516.lib (Logger libraries)
vlHLA1516.lib vl.lib matrix.lib mtl.lib vlutil.lib (VR-Link libraries)
librti1516.lib libfedtime1516.lib (RTI libraries)

For HLA Evolved, release configuration, link against:

lgrUtil.lib lgrCore.lib lgrApp.lib appEnv.lib lgrGui.lib lgrSimGuiHLA1516e.lib (Logger libraries)
vlHLA1516e.lib vl.lib matrix.lib mtl.lib vlutil.lib (VR-Link libraries)
librti1516e.lib libfedtime1516e.lib (RTI libraries)

8.2.2 Linking for DIS

For DIS, release configuration, link against:

lgrUtil.lib lgrCore.lib lgrApp.lib appEnv.lib lgrGui.lib lgrSimGuiDIS.lib (Logger libraries)
vlDIS.lib vl.lib matrix.lib mtl.lib vlutil.lib (VR-Link libraries)

8.3 Building Examples

The Logger includes several examples. Each example has project files that you can use to build it.

Note

To build the Logger application and state observer examples that use the Logger GUI libraries, you must use the Qt Toolkit.
