9.5 - netdumpDIS

netdumpDIS is a DIS debugging tool that displays the contents of arriving DIS PDUs in an easy-to-read format.

(Its HLA counterpart is 9.6 - netdumpHLA.)

netdumpDIS writes its output to stdout. For each PDU, netdumpDIS prints the number of PDUs it has received and the PDU's arrival time (relative to netdumpDIS's initialization).

netdumpDIS's usage is:

netdumpDIS [-c -errorChecking -h -v -r –verbose -A address -P port -S address –ignore_rest]

The following table describes the command-line options:

netdumpDIS Command-line Options
Option Description
(– | –ignore_rest) Ignore any remaining arguments on the command line. This is useful if you want to maintain a complete command-line syntax, but occasionally want to disable some of the options.
(-A | –destAddrString) address Specifies a broadcast address from which netdumpDIS can listen for packets. This can be useful if you have two network cards on your computer, because you can tell netdumpDIS to use the secondary card.
-c Clears the screen between PDUs. This option is especially useful for debugging single-entity applications. The screen is cleared between PDUs, so corresponding fields of successive PDUs appear in the same place. This makes changes in various parameters easily visible.
–errorChecking Specifies that netdumpDIS does not try to print PDUs when the size indicated in the DIS header does not match the size of the packet received.
(-h | –help) Displays a summary of command-line options, then exits.
(-P | –disPort) portnum Specifies the UDP port. Default: 3000.
(-r | –raw) Print raw data.
-S address Subscribes to the specified multicast addresses. You can specify multiple addresses on a command line. Multicast is not supported on all platforms.
(-v | –version) Display version information and exit.
–verbose Specifies verbose mode for message output.
